Glenglassaugh 5 Years Old Claxton’s For Precious Liquors 2018 to limitowana edycja Highland single malt whisky pochodzącej z destylarni Glenglassaugh, wydana przez niezależnego bottlera Claxton’s Spirits, która została zabutelkowana wyłącznie dla Precious Liquors w Singapurze. Została wydestylowany 30 kwietnia 2018 roku i dojrzewała przez 5 lat w beczce pierwszego napełnienia typu hogshead po sherry Pedro Ximénez . Zabutelkowano ją 10 lipca 2023 roku z mocą 57,7%. Edycja ta limitowana jest do 300 butelek.

Nos: intensywny, lotny, bardzo owocowy, wiśnie, śliwki, rodzynki, orzechy, marmolada/powidła wieloowocowe, jagody, kruche ciastko z nadzieniem owocowym (suszone owoce) – Mince Pie, suszone jabłka, nieco nafty, benzyna, wilgotne magazyny z beczkami, lakier, warsztat samochodowy, smar, nuty stęchlizny, nuty ziemiste, alkohol bardzo dobrze ukryty, suszone płatki róży, różane nadzienie z pączka
Smak: bardzo słodka i owocowa, mnóstwo suszonych owoców, czerwone i czarne porzeczki, żurawina, śliwki, wiśnie, rodzynki, figi, ciasto owocowe, nuty orzechowe, czekolada, nieco kawy, odrobina soli, nadal lekka stęchlizna, wilgoć, nuty lekko morskie, soczyste czerwone jabłka, truskawki, oleista i wyjątkowo złożona jak na swój wiek, dobrze zbalansowana, alkohol ponownie ładnie wkomponowany, dębina, ślady skóry, bakalie, mieszanka studencka, syropowa, gęsta, wręcz likierowa
Finisz: do samego końca słodko i bardzo owocowo, pojawia się nieco dębiny, wraca czekolada, kawa i nuty skóry, odrobina soli, dość szybko znika, zachęcając do kolejnego łyka
Zapach tej whisky od samego początku jest intensywny i wyrazisty. Na start dostajemy nuty, które mogą nie wszystkim się podobać, są to aromaty przypominające naftę, benzynę, lakiery czy też wyraźnie wilgotny magazyn z beczkami. Osobiście… zupełnie mi one nie przeszkadzały a wręcz przeciwnie – intrygowały, jednak zdaję sobie sprawę, że na tym etapie niektórzy mogą powiedzieć – „dziękuję, nie”. No i to będzie niestety ich błąd… Whisky ta potrzebuje czasu w kieliszku, aby spokojnie się otworzyć i pokazać, że jej młody wiek wcale nie jest tutaj problemem. Gdy już pooddycha, staje się bardzo, bardzo owocowa. Od razu pojawia się mieszanka wiśni, śliwek, rodzynek wraz z nutami orzechów, a następnie powideł wieloowocowych, głównie z ciemnych owoców. A dla mnie, jest to takie trochę płynne Mince Pie, czyli kruche ciastko z nadzieniem z suszonych owoców. Dodatkowo pojawia się jeszcze nieco stęchlizny, nuty ziemiste, ale również zapach nadzienia różanego z pączka.
W smaku od samego początku jest wyjątkowo słodka i owocowa. Mnóstwo w niej suszonych owoców, zarówno czerwonych jak i ciemnych. Mamy nuty żurawiny, czarne porzeczki, śliwki, dojrzałe wiśnie, rodzynki a całość komponuje się trochę w ciasto nafaszerowane owocami z dodatkiem orzechów. Dalej mamy wyraźne nuty czekolady wraz z nutą kawy, skóry i soli. Wciąż towarzyszy nam poczucie lekkiej stęchlizny, odrobina wilgoci i trochę jakby klimat nadmorskich magazynów. Gdy wracałem do niej po chwili na pierwszy plan wyszły truskawki z bitą śmietaną, nuty malin połączone z soczystymi czerwonymi jabłkami i bakaliami. A jej moc? No kurczę, zupełnie jakbym jej nie czuł.
Finisz to w sumie jej największy minus i atut zarazem. Minus taki, że nie trwa jakoś wyraźnie długo, jest wciąż bardzo owocowy, nadal słodki, z większą ilością dębiny, nut kawy i czekolady, ale po prostu znika… A atut… zdecydowanie woła nas, aby nalać sobie kolejnego drama… choć w sumie to też może być uznane za minus, bo jak mamy butelkę, to szybko może zniknąć jej zawartość 😉
Podsumowując, Claxton’s Exclusives Glenglassaugh 5yo for Precious Liquors, to młoda i charakterna Glenglassaugh, której jeśli tylko pozwolimy pooddychać, pokaże, że będziemy chcieć jej tylko więcej. Jak wspomniałem wcześniej, zdaję sobie sprawę, że pewne nuty mogą odrzucać, ale naprawdę jeśli tylko będziecie mogli jej spróbować to dajcie jej chwilę. Wtedy wszechobecne owoce opętają Wasze podniebienia a whisky stanie się wysoce pijalna. Osobiście jestem bardzo pozytywnie zaskoczony tym co otrzymałem. Miałem wrażenie, że obcuję z dojrzałą i zbalansowaną whisky, a nie młodą jeszcze nieułożoną i mało złożoną ekspresją. No cóż… żałuję tylko, że nie mam w domu butelki aby móc się nią dzielić…

Glenglassaugh 5 Years Old Claxton’s For Precious Liquors 2018 is a limited-edition Highland single malt from Glenglassaugh, released by independent bottler Claxton’s Spirits exclusively for Precious Liquors in Singapore. The single malt was distilled on 30 April 2018 and matured for 5 years in a first-fill Pedro Ximénez hogshead. It was bottled on 10 July 2023 at 57.7%. One of 300 bottles.
Let’s try it:
Nose: intense, volatile, very fruity, cherries, plums, raisins, nuts, marmalade/multi-fruit jam, berries, shortcrust pastry with fruit filling (dried fruit) – Mince Pie, dried apples, some kerosene, gasoline, damp warehouses with barrels, varnish, car repair shop, grease, musty notes, earthy notes, alcohol very well hidden, dried rose petals, rose donut filling
Taste: very sweet and fruity, lots of dried fruits, red and black currants, cranberries, plums, cherries, raisins, figs, fruit cake, nut notes, chocolate, a bit of coffee, a bit of salt, still slightly musty, moisture, slightly maritime notes, juicy red apples, strawberries, oily and exceptionally complex for its age, well-balanced, alcohol again nicely incorporated, oak, traces of leather, mix of nuts and dried fruits, syrupy, thick, even liqueur-like
Finish: sweet and very fruity until the very end, some oak appears, chocolate, coffee and leather notes return, a bit of salt, disappears quite quickly, encouraging you to take another sip
The aroma of this whisky is intense and expressive from the very beginning. At the beginning we get notes that may not be liked by everyone, these are aromas reminiscent of kerosene, gasoline, varnishes or a clearly damp warehouse with barrels. Personally… they didn’t bother me at all, on the contrary – they intrigued me, but I realize that at this stage some people may say – „thanks, no”. And, unfortunately, this will be their mistake… This whisky needs time in the glass to open calmly and show that its young age is not a problem here. Once it breathes, it becomes very, very fruity. Immediately, a mixture of cherries, plums and raisins appears with notes of nuts, followed by multi-fruit jam, mainly dark fruits. And for me, it’s a bit like a liquid Mince Pie, i.e. a shortcrust pastry stuffed with dried fruit. Additionally, there is a bit of mustiness, earthy notes, but also the smell of rose donut filling.
The taste is exceptionally sweet and fruity from the very beginning. There are lots of dried fruits, both red and dark. We have notes of cranberries, black currants, plums, ripe cherries, raisins, and the whole thing blends into a cake stuffed with fruit and nuts. Then we have clear notes of chocolate along with a hint of coffee, leather and salt. We still feel a bit musty note, a bit damp note and a bit like the atmosphere of seaside warehouses note. When I came back to it after a while, strawberries with whipped cream, notes of raspberries combined with juicy red apples and dried fruit came to the fore. And its strength? Damn, it’s as if I didn’t feel it.
The finish is actually its biggest disadvantage and advantage at the same time. The downside is that it doesn’t last significantly long, it’s still very fruity, still sweet, with more oak, coffee and chocolate notes, but it just disappears… And the advantage… definitely calls us to pour another dram… although it’s actually can also be considered a minus, because if we have a bottle, its contents can quickly disappear 😉
To sum up, Claxton’s Exclusives Glenglassaugh 5yo for Precious Liquors is a young and characterful Glenglassaugh that, if we let it breathe, will show that we only want more of it. As I mentioned earlier, I realize that some notes may be off-putting, but really, if you get the chance to try it, give it a while. Then the ubiquitous fruits will possess your palate and the whisky will become highly drinkable. Personally, I am very positively surprised by what I received. I had the impression that I was dealing with a mature and balanced whisky, not a young, unformed and not very complex expression. Well… I only regret that I don’t have a bottle at home to share…
